Default Phal. amabilis

I've been raising this baby since it was a toddler. This is her first bloom, and I'm quite pleased. P. amabilis is, in my opinion, a classic beauty.

Jkofferdahl,

Congrats on the first blooming of your amabilis! Well done.

I agree that it is a true classic. I have one myself that is setting up a couple of spikes...they are about an inch long now, so it will be a while before I get to see blooms. In the meantime, I'll be able to enjoy yours.

Thanks for posting.

Wow, you have a good insight.
But, as I know, this had been corssed for a long time.
Here is another pic I found, took and colored by Japaness before WWII as a post card, it could be the original one.

We have a wealth of Phal amabilis variants stretching from Taiwan to Australia.

I can only post two variants from Indonesia.

1st is from Java with pointed and slim dorsal sepal.

2nd pict is taken in Manado, which is on the Northern tip of Celebes island (very close to the southern end of Philippines). The dorsal sepal and petals are noticeably different than the one from Java. Sorry the quality of photo isn't any better.

I'm still looking for var Papuana and var Moluccana. A seller in Indonesia told me the Papua variant has distinct yellow color on the lip with no hint of orange.

Hope I can get more more picts.

So far I have 5 variants from Indonesia islands. Such as Moluccana, Mentawai, PNG, Sulawesi, and E. Timor.
The PNG is very special with silver leaves and the scent. The other enigma is the E. Timor, I am not sure mine is correct or not. Many people confuse it between Sulawesi and E. Tumoe here.
I have no the pic with flower now, but you can find the plant in my other thread. (My mountings)
