Default My keiki has a spike!! Woohooo!!!!!!!

Ok, I'm over-excited about this--but my keiki has a spike!!! OMG!!! It's a Nobby's Amy and I took it from the mother plant in May 2008. Potted it in 1/2 coir 1/2 bark and I noticed today that it has a spike!!! I'm so excited!!

Do you think it's too young to bloom? should I cut off the spike?

I'm so happy--I wasn't too sure about the orchid growing thing, but now I'm delighted. ::giggle::

Ok, I gotta calm down!! LOL

I'll post pics later.

YAY!! Keikis are so fun!

I was so excited too when my keiki did that too! I cut it of the the mother in march, and the spike appeared end of April. It's still blooming. No new leaves, but there are a ton of new roots. It's little pot is crammed full. I wonder how I will repot it, because the roots are coming out of the drainage holes and slowly taking over the windowsill.

Unless you really want the keiki to grow quickly, there is no reason to cut the spike. If the plant already has the energy to spike, that's good enough for us! Enjoy the blooms!

Hey Peewee,

Congrats on your spiking keiki!

I think the plant will be just fine if you let it bloom. It doesn't appear to be too small to me in order to support flowers.

Thank you! A small success but I feel inordinately happy about it.
