Phalenopsis Noid blooming like crazy!
Hi there
My sister gave me this orchid from a wellknown British supermarket three years ago and it is now on its fifth spike. The last two have been multibranched and it is heaving its way out of a large pot about 6inches across. While I'm very pleased, should I repot it or let it have a rest? I feed alternate feeds with Chempak ordchid food and it sits in my east facing kithcen window. As soon as one spike finishes another appears.
Also can anyone put a name to it for me, please?
All comments welcomed
Regards

Wow, it sure looks great! It must really love your care. I love these multibranch phals, they are my favorites. The plant seems super healthy with plenty of roots, so if it wants to spike so often it must have the energy to do so. As long as it finds time in its busy schedule to grow leaves and roots, it should be fine. When was the last time you repotted it? If it has not been done since buying it, you'll have to do it soon. As the roots in the pot look great, there seems to be no rush. I would just wait for the blooms to wilt and then repot.

Thanks, Camille, I did repot it once about two years ago but I'm wondering about where to keep it if it gets much bigger. The other problem is getting clear pots in bigger sizes. I'll have to do some research.

This looks like the classic Phal Baldan's Kaleidoscope. Having said that one must keep in mind that there are several variations of this theme as one can see from the attached pics....Th 1st pics ARE NOT Phal BK but "look-alikes" Phal Sogo Fireworks

Beto, if you're making reference to my flowers (Doc) then I must tell you I have no tricks....just hard work and trying to pay careful attention to the basics and trial and error....trust me, like many others on OB, I've knocked off my fair share!!!!!! Thanks for the compliment, but this thread is really about the question asked by Hedge and not about my flowers....I posted them so Hedge could make a comparison to her's and maybe give her chid a name.....
BTE, Hedge, that clear pot looks more like about a 12 to 14 cm pot and it is very narrow at the base and tall. The reason I make this observation is because your "standard" plastic pots are wider at the base so I don't think you'll have a problem repotting and getting all the roots into a new home.

Hedge, can you get ice cream in large milky colored tubs? 3-4 liter? If you find some, eat the ice cream, then burn or melt slots around the bottom and you'll have a bigger pot (I meant flower pot) No pun intended, trust me. Anyways, look around the grocery store for any products that come in clear or milky tubs of about the right size. In a pinch you can use a 2 liter soda bottle. Just cut the top off with scissors. Just a thought. By the way, roots are good. Looks like you got the water thing down OK. After the flowers are gone, you might want to repot, if only to keep it from getting so top-heavy. I do feel the rootbound pot and good care have led to great flowering. Nice job.

Hedge
That is a beautiful phal! Did it come from Sainsbury's or perhaps one of the other supermarkets? If it did I am sure going to look out for one of those! I agree with Ross there must be plenty of containers in our supermarkets.

SORRY.... I'm refering to the thread of Hedge.... the first thread!!!
All of us work hard day after day to make our Chids beautifull... That's ONE TRICK!!!!
It is hard, I know that, and the daily experience will make us (including you) masters in ORCHID CARE, that's ANOTHER TRICK.
Light, moisture conditions, watering, air circulation, temperature and the brand of the orchids food are TRICKS TOO...
In conclusion all of us have many, many TRICKS...
