Talking Newberry Parfait Picotee First Bloom (for me) !!!!!!!

Hello All,
This plant was given to me less than a year ago in a very terrible state. The previous owner could not figure out how to take care of it and the minute she heard that I grow orchids she passed it to me, to give it a good home. repotted it cleaning out all the old decomposed medium (and the colony of ants that had become so comfortable) and cut back all the not-so-good looking roots and repotted it in a mix of "orchid mix" and spag (so I wouldn’t have to water it as frequently) and low and behold it apparently is happy because 3 days ago its first bloom since ive had it opened big and beautiful.

As always Thank You ALL for everything.

Actually all but one of my orchids is kinda a rescue story.
The girl that cuts my hair is a botanical freak like me, so when friends and family buy her plants every once in a while she gets an orchid, and despite her best of intentions she slowly kills them. Once I mentioned the fact that I had purchased an orchid and had kept it alive for longer than 6 months she started giving me every orchid that was giving to her (as soon as it finished blooming of course ) all she expects is pictures of the blooms. hehe
So far only one of the orchids she has given me died, but it was in very bad shape but did leave a kieki behind which is thriving wonderfully.

Very pretty clor on that one. I have a few phals on the brink now, actually they have been on the brink for a few months. Well at least they are not getting any worse, so they must be getting better

Good growing! Newberry Parfait is a really lovely flower, very long lasting, and the pink is a true pink. Really nice. It's awarded, too

Carter & Holmes bred this one, and they claim it is constantly in bloom. That's been my experience with the one I got in 07-- it starts new spikes while still blooming. Just a warning, tho-- the spikes on mine have broken twice from the weight of the open flowers, so be sure to stake it up securely.

And FWIW, C & H also say it is the most popular phal in France. That doesn't mean muchmaybe, but is a measure of its beauty.

Enjoy your success and your beautiful blooms.
