Awesome! I love keikis. And I love roots, too. (My wife gets sick of me showing her every new root I find growing on my Phals.)

Yay for the keikis! Usually everyone complains that their keikis are slow to grow roots, but yours did things the other way around!

I know what you mean about getting excited about roots. Every time I see some appearing on my phals (or other orchids) I try to share my excitement with my mom, sister or friends. They don't get it and say "Camille, it is JUST a root!" They just don't understand...

Yeah, when I was really excited and showed my husband the new spike on my Vanda, his response was--isn't that what they're supposed to do?

Non orchid people are hopeless, they can't get excited about anything! When I came to the Netherlands in September for grad school, I left a few phals behind at home (but brought along the rest of 30 odd orchids in the collection ). Anyways, my sister is supposed to water/take care of them . I asked for news about them yesterday. After that question there was an extended period of silence and then a long uuummmmmm.... Obviously she doesn't pay attention because she only JUST noticed (while we where on the phone) that 2 of the phals had spikes. And I don't mean small weeny spikes. These spikes are already 20-30cm tall! How could she miss those??!!??

I'm jealous! ( not really) I've never yet had a kieki off a spike...never.
Please keep posting updates Gloria, ok? This is very exciting!

hahaha It's true, non-orchids folk just don't get it, why we keeping telling them? I don't know
But it the same with any hobby of interest, if their not doing it they really don't get it.
Sandy, You should get yourself 1 of these, this is a typical habit for this species, but for many species aswell. I'll renew this thread from time to time for you
