Hi Sandy
I repotted my phals in wire baskets filled with rocks a few months ago. i grow all my orchids outdoors and during raining season they got overwatered. I had them in pinebark, charcoal and coconut husk before. Since the switch they're doing very well. I do need to water them everyday during the dry season but hey better than having them die when it rains everyday...
After seeing pix of the mounted phals I think i'll try that too...
Well here is my Hi everyone I had my Phals in bark and I did have trouble with watering slow growth and no flowers. I have since repotted all my Phals in s/h medium. I have to say that I am very pleased with the way they are growing. Several are starting to spike for the 1st time and I do like to rescue chids from the BB stores. Most of them were in sorry shape when purchased and now after almost a year they are growing great. Watering is a breeze now once a week that's it.
I'm currently using a commercial mix of fir bark, perlite, charcoal and expanded clay supplemented 40-50% with sphag. Seems better for me than either straight sphag or bark mix.
