Hi greenbean! Freddies like any other big box store doesn't spend much time taking care of any of their plants. Yours was probably in tough shape when you got it. I think you'll find that when your culture improves so will your flower count. That means regular watering and feeding, good light and intermediate temps. To initiate spiking I find that a difference in temp of 10 degrees between day and night is needed in the fall. Your flower count will go up once the overall health of the plant improves. I have a NOID that was a BB buy. I've had it 3 years at least. Last year it put up a spike with only 5 blooms and those didn't last very long. I repotted in the spring after I cut off the wimpy spike. It's rewarding me now with double spikes! I think it just wanted to be repotted.

No kidding about BB stores. It's roots were dry as an Egyptian tomb! They grew like crazy, all over the place once I got it recovered. It's been blooming since September this year (right after I left for college! ) and showed no signs of stopping when I went home for Thanksgiving.

I think I need to save it and a few other plants from my dad though . He underwaters everything, and the roots were starting to look like they had at Freddies. In his defense he does work very long hours and I have turned the house into a greenhouse!

I'll just be patient. It's blooms were bigger this time, so maybe next time there will be more of them! It doesn't seem to have any trouble spiking, although double spikes would be awesome! I think after these blooms fade, I will cut the spike all the way back, since this is a rebloom from an old spike. I've heard that can lead to better flowering next time.

Again, yours is just absolutely gorgeous!

I have found that to be very true for my plants. It also gives them a chance to go through a vegatative growth cycle and save up some energy for the next bloom cycle.

Wow, really looks like it's about to fall out the pot.

Fabulous flowers though.

Thank you all for the nice comments and for greenbean showing me your Great White NOID!

She put on a great show this year....the flowers have just started to drop one by one. I'll repot her this coming year since she's "crawling" out of the pot.

Hehe, I'm sure she'll appreciate it. Those wild roots look happy, but I'll bet they'll enjoy something around them. Or you could try mounting it like Edward suggested. Sorry, I know I kinda hijacked your thread with my own NOID. Once again, beautiful chid.
