Pic of new spike? Off Cut old stalk, in trash can

everyone!

I was in my greenhouse tonight to visit my babies, when I noticed something peculiar in my trash can.

About 2 weeks ago or so, I went through all my old dead/dying flower spikes and cut them off and threw in the trash can, As always.

Well I guess in my watering habits, about 1" of water managed to run into my trash can. I about died to see what I saw!!!

I had one of my old Phal spikes that I cut off weeks before, sticking out of the trash can, now showing off with a big beautiful new spike, I think!!

I pulled it out of the trash and put it in a water bottle with about 1" of water, like the trash can had! And she's growing and growing!!

I've never ever seen anything like that? A cut off spike coming back to life in the Trash??

With a little bit of water to help I guess by mistake. I miracle in my eye

Is this normal?? I hope so

Is this a new Spike? Or something else?

And, what do I do about transplanting, If I have NO ROOTS? As she's just a stick/stalk in a water bottle now!

whoa! i didn't think that could happen! i know other plants can do that but Phal's. ya learn something new every day you could leave the water and see what happens, and tell us.

WHAT?? Nobody has ever seen this?? I can't believe this babe is a True MIRACLE

She's truly a cut off old Spike, that was standing in the trash with many others. My water runoff must've been the magic key for her?? But not for the others, as they didn't do this that were in the trash can with her.

I just don't know how to care for her, if the time comes, with NO ROOTS? She can't live in 1" of water and a water bottle for ever!

I can see that she's strong, staying green, and growing! So time will tell I guess! I just can't believe nobody has ever seen this??

Hi Jkelee,

Well, I've never seen it before but then there are lots of things I haven't seen.

I would keep it in the vase in the green house and let it be. If it continues to grow you'll have a nice spray of blossoms for the house and if it stops/dies, it was in the trash anyway.

We all need to stop and think that a plants only purpose in life is to reproduce its self. Given the strength and conditions to do so, it will give everything to blossom or in some other way, make a new plant.

Wow, thats just weird... but really shows how much life-force it is in this chids... Hope she survives, and who knows, mabe she`ll grow a keiki after?

Just a reason why some phal growers say about faded flower spikes: "If it's green let it be, if it's brown cut it down." Apparently there was still life in that spike. If left with the plant, it may have rebloomed, hopefully it will get enough of what it needs to rebloom for you in the vase.

Sometimes if you put a spike in water, it will make a keiki. There is a thread about this on Big Leaf. It is about a year old or I would try to find it.
