how about great growing, pat yourself on the back and why worry if it looks sooooo goooood! I guess you could look at this as a "wolf in sheep's clothes," and you have no roots in the pot....but let's not go there

Thanks all! There are tons of good looking roots inside the clear pot also. I just haven't seen this type behavior before...kind of a surge of roots, so to speak. Yes, it must be happiness then. Happiness I can handle.
Still, it seems so strange to me. Thanks for the reassurance. whew!!

I have a surge of roots above the mix as well. But in my case, the lower roots are dismal.

Kiki, I have one that's doing exactly the same thing. I've got good roots below the surface, a new leaf started and lots of roots coming out from the upper part of the plant. It really looks weird. It's a Brother Sara 'Gold'.

Theres no problem with roots above the media, as long as there are still living roots below, i have had this happen when using Redwood Fibers to pot Phals, Watch for sticking though sometimes when they get too happy they get frisky with the plants around them and begin to grow into their pots and on there leaves and stems. I picked up a plant from the bench that was doing the same thing and three others came with it. As long as you can keep the humidity up the plant will be fine, If you cant pot it into a shallow but wide pan or when you go to repot the plant you will have to snap a lot of roots to get it inside of the new pot.
