A phal with a terminal spike can live for a l-o-n-g time before you lose the original plant. I had a NOID get a terminal spike and then a basal keiki and had the keiki big enough to bloom before I ever seperated the keiki.
I have a Sogo Grape that got a terminal ROOT from the crown that also produced a basal keiki. The original growth is down to two leaves now but the keiki bloomed with two spikes this year. And the best part, the original growth also bloomed. I'm not dividing the keiki off this plant and will wait and hope for another keiki from the original plant.
Until the roots dry up and the foliage falls off, there is hope.

I have never heard or seen a terminal root!
Do you have a photo of it? Brooke

Wow, terminal root! Who would thunk it. I too need to see that one.
But yes, you are all correct, hope is far from gone. Hopefully I will get lots of little Phalings.

I know someone else this happened with and of course, one of his favorite Phals. Before the spike started budding, he began using the KeikiPro and if memory serves correct, he placed the plant in a dark closet. When it began budding, he kept the plant in the right amount of light, the flowers eventually died and the plant sat there, still alive but no results from the KeikiPro.
And then.........
one day, months later, a basal keiki.
As brooke said, "Until the roots dry up and the foliage falls off, there is hope."
Good luck and keep the faith!
