Default Mount a Phalaenopsis Equestris?

I've got a Phal. Equestris that just dropped it's last flower and thank god I found a site (while looking for info on if I can mount it.. It's currently in a 2" container) that said that they usualy throw a keiki, because I was about to snip off the stalk! Meanwhile, I haven't found any info on whether I can or should mount it. Any tips and other info on this little beauty?

I have about 60-70 orchids but I'm a rank beginner on their care. Most of my older ones have survived through luck and blind ignorance but now I have the time to really take good care of them. I've also really developed an interest in mini's lately, especially mounted plants.

Thanks

Hi Wimpy,
I see you haven't posted to often to the board so maybe no one has welcomed you. Let me do so know with a hearty .

I have two P. equestris, (What IS the plural, ii ?) both mounted, one has just finished blooming, the other is a bit to young. Anyway, they both do fine. I have one on cork and another in moss on a special mount that I'll be showing pictures of soon. I also have several hybrid forms of P. equestris, all mounted on cork with S moss.

Glad you found the info on not cutting the spike!!!

I have quite a few equestris some are mounted upside down roots up leaves down , that way water can't sit in the top causing crown rot , plant roots are directly on the mount with Spag. over them ,some use fishing line to secure them to the mount . I use strips of panty hose .. Hope this helps .. Also Welcome to the forum .. Gin

Wow, thanks for the responses! Also, great idea about mounting it upside down. So much to learn! My next question is, should I wait to see if a keiki developes before I disturb it?

I raise Killifish, have a few poison dart frogs, several vivariums, I'm a homebrewer/Beer judge, but it's been a long time since a hobby has grabbed me like orchids have the last few months!
