Mounting Phal. schilleriana. Male
Default Mounting Phal. schilleriana.

Hello all,
I have a new Phal. schilleriana on the way from an ebay seller and I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on mounting it. I have experimented with mounting using different types of orchids and materials with different degrees of success ( , , and )and I have big plans for this Phal.
I was thinking about using driftwood if I can find a nice looking piece that's the right size.
Any tips or suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks,
AaronM

Ah,,,,,,,so you're the one who got that beautiful phal!!!

If it's the one I'm thinking of it is a real beauty.

I have mine mounted on cork. Driftwood would work just fine. Just a matter of personal choice. I like cork because of its natural appearance and ease of hanging, whereas driftwood is a bit harder to hang and move about.

Use strong fishing line to tie the plant to the mounting.

It's a moot point since the orchid arrived slug eaten and half rotten. I could have saved it but the grower required me to send back the leaves in order to get a refund.

So sad.

Oh Aaron, how terribly sad, that was a great looking Phal. I would really like a PM with the vendor name.......( I deleted my "watching" after the auction ended)
Don't give up on P. Schilleriana, it's a beauty of a plant even when not blooming and really looks great mounted as it shows off the leaves better that way.

For your next mount, instead of fishing line, use zip ties. They sinch real tight and no fumbling or help from an outside party. Long twist ties work well too. Just my

I am sorry ,
I use strips of panty hose cut in what ever width you want , they stretch hold the moss over the roots with out cutting into it . I just mounted one on a slab of tree fern roots up . Gin

Hi Aaron, so, you are the one who out bid me huh? I bid on two P. schillerianas this week on ebay and was out bid. Congrats.
Well, if you don't have a humid environment, I would go ahead and literally tie the phal to cork or wood mount, I use sewing string because Im too lazy to go get fishing line which is stronger and transparent. Include some sphagnum to conserve moisture. I know in my apartment anything mounted without sphag would die from dehydration out in about two weeks, even if I watered it every morning. If you live in a humid environment and you can water it often, when dry, then forget the sphag.

Wait, did they send it like this, or did a slug get in the shipping box and ate it on the way? At least the vendor will take it back, man what a loss!
