Default Removing keiki

I am new to this forum and I desperately need help. My plant has been in bloom since the end of February and I just removed the last three flowers today because I want to repot it. In the meantime, a keiki has formed between a leaf and the main stem. It's already a couple of inches with a root several inches long. It has two leaves and starting a third. The mother plant has never looked this good and I don't want to damage it. How do I remove the keiki without damaging the main plant? Also, if I'm right, there is another one or two getting ready to pop through. The plant blooms every year. It is a good size and very healthy. If I can figure out how to upload some pics I'll do it. Can someone tell me how to do this? I will appreciate whatever help I can get.

Maureen

Those would be "basal keikis" which will make for a beautiful specimen. As long as the mother plant is doing well, I'd leave it alone

Thank you for your response.

So, even though it's growing about halfway up the plant I should leave it? How would you get the main plant to remain upright with the weight of another plant pulling it over or is there a better way to pot the main plant?

Welcome to the OB. Your plant will shape itself. I also would leave it and allow the plant to get bigger. To add pictures click on the GO ADVANCED button below and then click on the paper clip Icon above. You may have to resize the picture. If you do just right click on the picture you want select resize picture and choose the small option. Good luck

Wow, it's great top see our members getting so involved to help other folks maneuver around the board!

Maureen, I'm thinking I might have misunderstood you. Where on the plant is this keiki growing from? On the long stem where the blooms come from? I thought it was at the base of the plant...hence, basal keiki

A picture would really help us to give you the right advice.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
My advice...definitely download the resizing program. It makes it a LOT easier to get a picture uploaded

Thanks everyone - I'll be working on your advice and, hopefully, get the pics uploaded.

Thank you Sue !!! We are glad to help. That way we don't have to leave everything for the moderators.

Hi again, OK, if I did it right, there should be a folder called Keiki with 3 pics. If you look directly opposite the keiki, something else is growing and I think it could be another keiki. Thanks again for your help.

Maureen it definetly looks like a basal keiki to me in which the plants is propagating through the rhizome but I'm just a beginner just like you. Let someone more experienced give you some advice. I'm going to post your pictures so that everyone can see them in the thread.
