Default Phal ID?

Hey all,

I have a NOID Phal...probably a Brother cross of some sort. There was no spike, just two blooms from the base of the kiki. Take a look and tell me what you think.

I think that it looks very weird. It seems to be missing the other 2 petals maybe a mutation of some source.

OK, I added two new photos. Maybe it is a mutated Brother X? I don't know.

I'm sure no expert, there are others here that are so I hope you can get a better explanation.
I would call this a mutation. It will be interesting to see what it does in the future.
Thanks for the new pictures.

Al

It looks like a hybrid .. could be one in a million ..

Maybe it had undergone some stress while in bud development ?
The leaves look healthy and not deformed so that might eliminate a virus .. ?? maybe? maybe not?
Just throwing out some random thoughts

Phal NOID Mutant Brother X sounds like a fine name for it

In picture #2, there is a green "knobby" like growth.
Can you tell what this is? Or what it wanted to be?
A deformed leaf? Any ideas on it?

Default Knubby

BirdSong:

That knubby was part of what I thought was a spike. Soon after new leaves came out of it, then the terminal spikes and blooms.

So the knobby thing was the first leaf, albeight deformed........
Wish someone would jump in with some guesses, I've not had any experience with virus infected plants (thank heavens). I don't know if a new growth (keiki) could be virus infected and not the mother plant. The main plant looks good, the leaves have good color and shape.
I just don't know. You have a "wonder".
Keep it going and see what the next bloom sequence looks like.

By the way, I LIKE the blossom, the lip is a bit deformed too but it kinda looks like a Catt/Phal cross. LOL

Default Definitely Weird

I agree. I have an email into Bob Gordon out of California. He is a Phal. expert with several books under his belt.
