floriferous phal?

i am looking for a phal that will bloom for more than once a year. does anyone have any ideas?

HI Bonsai,
I have many phals and they are in bloom more than out of bloom. They shoot up one or two spikes then bloom off that, then bloom again off spikes from nodes, etc. I don't think there is any one type in particular that do that, but blooms last up to several months that way for most of mine.
Someone once said (I think on OB) if the name has a 4N with it, that it's likely to be more hearty than most. I don't know cause none of mine have that on the names.

I as well have phals that bloom over and over. Not sure if it was here kiki or not about the 4N a search brought up nothing but have heard the same and like you none of mine have a 4N in the name.

i mean an orchid that sends up spikes more than once a year. i have tried the re-blooming techniques and i never get any more blooms.

I've had the same experience as Kiki and Cheryl. It seems like there are a lot of phals that bloom more than once a year. It probably depends on the health of the plant too I suppose. I have a Dtps. Newberry Parfait 'Picotee' that was blooming when I received it for Valentine's Day. It bloomed for several months and when the flowers wilted off I cut the entire spike down. Within a month it started a whole new spike which is just beginning to form buds now. On the Carter and Holmes website it says thats it's always in spike or bloom regardless of season.

Hey bonsai, I'd say most phallys bloom more than once a year, given the right conditions.

I have 2 that just finished blooming and are already sending a new spike from an old node.

My Phals have been in bloom for over 5 months now. the old flowers wilted and I've got a new spike coming out from one of the nodes on each of the flowerless spikes. All I do is water every 10 to 12 days and they are in a pretty cool room around 70 most of the day.

Yes, let's hope it does Don't worry Bonsai, I don't think all your phals will go 7 yrs sans blooms

as long as the spike is green, just let it be, if it turns brown and dy is a sign that it will not rebloom (from that particular spike, of course )
