A month later and most of the buds are open! Thought I'd share it. It's officially the most buds on any orchid I've had, but can't fairly take credit for that one as the plant was originally a gift from a friend who's parents grow/breed strong orchids for a living. Good genes.

1,3,5 are not the same plant... on my screen ;-) think we have different computers screen sizes and its stacking the pictures in different orders, either way I'm sure you're right! All 3 plants have different colored blooms so easy to tell apart.

The pinkish one has stated to produce fresh buds, which was a shock, took it out of a display pot recently (thanks to the suggestion of a thread on this very site) which is the only explanation I can think of, just goes to show this site is fantastic for handy tips that help orchids grow to their full potential (thanks everyone!).

Your phals are amazing!!! I am so jealous of how many flowers each one has. I love the colors on every one. The white one does look like a cloud (even with the yellow lip). Do you grow your orchids in the windows or under lights? It seems like you're making them very happy!

You can take a great deal of satisfaction for growing such nice phals. The number of blooms is amazing.
It's not difficult to grow phals but getting them to really show their stuff like you have done isn't the easiest thing to do.

I give NOIDS a name that describes the flower -- like "Purple Silk" or "Pink Blush". I put it in quotes and that tells me it's a made-up personal name.

But hey, how about Ada NOID, Para NOID, Alki NOID?

Just in a normal window for a good part of the year! I stick to a fairly simple routine, used it last year and now this, so it works for me.

Always kept them in clear pots, didn't used to like seeing the roots so kept them in larger fancy containers, but after I joined this board and read some of the discussion threads thought it might be better to keep the roots exposed to light as well. Now the pink one has suddenly started to produce more buds so will keep it up!

Tend to water every 5 days during Spring/Summer/Autumn using rainwater and fertilizer, (5/2/1) in winter fertilizer every couple of waterings (10/10/10).

The window they spend most of the year has a Northern/Eastern exposure so the plants get early morning, and late evening (at an angle) sun, think that's the key to lots of blooms; the sun isn't strong enough at either of those times to burn/heat the leaves, but it gives a burst of light and creates large temperature swings.

It's nice to think what I'm doing works, but think it's much more likely the plants have just been selectively bred to produce lots of flowers!

Thanks again for such nice comments, if anything else interesting happens I'd be happy to share ,

Kratos those Phals look gorgeous. I've got a white one that looks just like your but it's a NOID as well so I guess that it doesn't help much; anyways all three of them are beautiful. Great growing !!!!

Have been reading and watching the other threads lately and it gave me the hunger to go Orchid hunting. Went to a garden center today, there were lots of similar and basic ones clustered together when I spotted one I knew I must have! They only had the one, one of its leaves has been cut, its in a medium I don't like at all (mainly a compost make up, I find orchids tend to rot in this and sure enough a few of the roots were looking distinctly yellow, once its flowered I'll change it) but the flowers were amazing and it actually had an identity tag "Elegant Polka".

Of the 3 orchids from the first post in this thread, the one with the red lip has long finished flowering and a new spike is developing (No picture).

The purple/reddish flowered orchid has been in flower since May! (6 months! ) Its a very curious plant, it grows out several new buds on the same spike every month or so then sheds the older flowers, in this sense it has got very top heavy and tall. No new spikes or leaves as it seems content to keep the old ones.

The huge white cloud orchid definitely has a branching aspect . One new spike with the other two also developing many many new "branches", I think by Christmas it's going to have a very nice display.

They've never flowered twice in one year before, so can only assume the weather is playing a part as it seems very strange they've all done this.

Anyway that's it, thanks for keeping me all inspired with your stories and pictures
