slow leaf growth?

Once again, I have another question, and maybe some of you can help me out

One of my phals has a leaf that seems to be growing VERY slowly, or not at all.-- All the leaves on my other phals are growing, but this one stopped, and is about half an inch high, but doesnt seem to have grown over the past month. Is this normal sometimes?

Is the plant otherwise healthy? The roots in good condition? The plant getting the right amount of light? If so, just keep an eye on it. That leaf may or may not grow more (it probably will) but if not a new one may soon follow it.

I agree. Some Phals develop leaves on a regular schedule. Others seem slow to develop (if at all). Usually the next one developes just fine. Who knows?

the plant seems healthy; new root growth, and a flower spike that is about to flower with 9 buds. I plan on repotting it this weekend, even though it is in bud; it has been blooming since december, and sent out a new spike after the other one finished. I want to make sure the roots are healthy, but I am pretty sure they are, I can see firm, white roots through the holes of the pot.

Cam, Have you tried foliar feeding the plant, I find that this often helps a plant that seems to have "stuck"

That it's blooming is a good sign. Perhaps the regrowth - or is it a new spike altogether - is what caused the plant's leaf to stop growing. Flower spikes/flowers are essentially highly specialized leaf growths themselves. But regardless, it doesn't sound like you have anything to worry about with the plant.

mmm..thats true. perhaps the growth will continue once the flowers have opened

Sounds like it has tapped out it's available energy. It's trying to do lots of things at once. Growing a new leaf, new roots, new spike, and flowering. I'd say that growing the new leaf has shifted to a lower priority. I wouldn't worry about it.

poor thing!! it must be tired!! trying to do too many things at the same time!!! its a noid white phal.. so now we can refer to it as 'soccer mom phal', cause its always so gosh darn busy

LOL!! Yap, I agree I think she's a bit pooped out.
Are you feeding it?
This has happened to me a couple of times now, as a spike was forming, also when in flower. I find the leaf never really gets to the normal size as the others, but the next one should -- well atlease in my cases it did.
