And just think, when the final flower fades and falls off, new "spikelets" will form back down the main spike. I kept mine (BH - before hail) in continuous bloom for two solid years - no lie! And it put out two new leaves during this period (thus the new spikes). I really miss that chid. Gonna watch for a new one this spring. Got mine locally at a "big box" store and will try to find another as robust as the one I had.

Woaw!!! For real? I don't think my green thumb is as green as yours! Holly moly!!! I had no idea what I have! Thanks for the info, plus I'll see if I can get that full plant pic for you.

Yup, that's the one! Watch the bud just below the last flower. That's the one most likely to send out a new spike. When the last flower quits (such a dramatic moment!) just cut the spike right below the last flower place and wait. I'd betcha there will be a new spike emerge from the bud just below the last flower. Tell me I'm wrong!

Will it be ok if I don't cut the spike anywhere? Last time I cut a spike to get a second spike the whole thing turned brown on me. Maybe someone should post an article on how to do this, with pics or something. How to induce a new spike from the old one.

it's not hard to do the cutting, but it doesn't always work--sometimes the plant is just done blooming, and won't send a secondary spike. so if the spike dies, just cut it all the way back at the bottom, and if it doesn't, then you got a few bonus blooms.

I think some crosses are more likely to rebloom than others. I've had good luck with this cross but not so good luck reblooming others.
