Default Buds half right side up, half upside down!?

Hi all!

my dtps. is doing great, and had 10 buds in development. I have not moved the plant except when watering. The plant can't have even been moved by one degree, since its in a SQUARE pot and fits in the corner of my shelf. But still, half of my buds are right side up, the others are upside down!! (ie the first bud is normal, the next is upside down, the next is normal, the next is upside down..etc.)

has anyone ever had this happen? ughh and its going to be such a nice plant in bloom! they still have a bit of development to go, maybe they will still have time to organize their little selves!!!!

This has only happened to me when I've changed the position of the plant in relation to the light. Not sure what's up with yours. Is it a new plant? If it is it may not have had time to reorient all the buds prior to opening.

no, I've had it for two years, and this is the first time it has re-bloomed for me.
I'll post a picture when the buds get a bit larger

Don't worry too much at this stage , they will often turn as they get be larger and start to open.
You sometimes do get buds that just will not present well , I think it has something to do with have a bit of cold weather just at the wrong moment in the buds development. When this happens I gently twist the bud so that it faces correctly . You have to be very careful not to break the bud off though , only twist when the weather is warm!!! You can even do a little twisting as the flower is opening, but once the flower has set this will not work. Hopefully you won't have to do that, as twisting is almost an art of it's own ,and you are not supposed to do this if the plant is to be put on show.

This process of turning is called Resupination [Ernst and Arditti 1994].

I have found with my phals (now that includes dtps as per taxomomical name changes) that when the spike has grown and developed in a certain position that the flowers will bloom according to it's position. (In other words, right side up). I tried once to reposition the spike after the buds developed and found in doing so didn't change the flowers position causing them to appear up-side down.
I don't know if this link will help answer your question, Morse Code Man but I did find it interesting - FxPhal - Thank you for finding the term - Resupination - here is a little info on it - http://oscov.asn.au/articles2/respun...es2/respun.htm

I've had this happen too. Phal buds are supposted to orient themselves to light but sometimes I think that the raceme has just grown in a strage way and twisted itself a bit so most of the flowers come out normal and nicely tesselated but others dont. I think the flowers can only twist a certain number of degrees around and sometimes thats not enough to make them right side up.
