Pic of “ Phalaenopsis Stuartiana x Minus hybrid” that I am considering. Maybe the autocorrect messed up and capitalized Stuartiana? Mine did…

As I am trying to learn both with orchids and in life in general, is patience. But I am not good at that!

If it is listed as “ Phalaenopsis stuartiana x Phalaenopsis minus” (both are species so their specific names should be lower case), the the plant is the hybrid, Phalaenopsis Fine Art.

Phal. minus originates from higher elevations in Thailand, so can see much cooler winters, so may make the hybrid more tolerant of lower temperatures than the Phal. stuariana would tolerate.

Yup, that is what the tag reads in the pic the vendor sent. Good to know, thanks, Ray!

Yeah, asleep at the wheel. Wrong using word "hybrid." And frankly still can't thing of the right word. As I said, I avoid the orchid world nomenclature rabbit hole... there's a reason for that.

wow, that is a very interesting flower with some nice traits! if you look at the petal and sepal shapes, they have a nice form in between round and "species" narrow. also the lips coloration and form are quite weird and wild. its cool!

yes, that would be a hybrid, specifically a primary hybrid as its made from 2 species parents. pretty pricey, but its possible there aren't many from the grex available.

good luck! we like our stuartiana, but have no experience with the species minus...

I was able to talk the vendor down in price a bit, and now I am the proud owner of a phalaenopsis stuartiana x phalaenopsis minus, Phalaenopsis Fine Art…thank you @Ray. She still has a few blooms, which are very pretty and colorful and different from my other phals. And I love the lightly mottled foliage. Wondering if I should treat her like the species stuartiana in terms of watering and light - slightly dry between watering, and part shade, not much direct light like my other phals? She has a great root system but I can’t wait to get her out of that clear plastic pot with no holes for aeration and packed in sphagnum. And did I mention she’s putting out a new leaf?! She must be happy…
