Phalaenopsis: new basal keiki, spike, roots, leaf?
Default Phalaenopsis: new basal keiki, spike, roots, leaf?

Hello to All, thanks for having me!

This orchid appears to be growing at least one basal keiki, possibly 2, but could be a spike. It's also sent out a new leaf and two new roots. I'm concerned about all the new growth at once. Could you please help me:

1. Identify the second unknown growth?
2. Should I be concerned about all the new growth?

First, Welcome!

The oen on the left definitely a basal growth, can't tell on the other. You should be delighted, not concerned, about all that new growth! New growth is good! There's no such thing as "too much". Whatever you're doing, keep on doing it! Some Phal species (in the parentage) do more in the way of basal growths than others, forming a clump. Each growth can produce flowers, making a great display. It's not really a "keiki" - it is using the root system of the main plant, they can't be separated without damaging both. Keep the plant as happy as it seems to be now, and you'll get a beautiful show.

What Roberta said! Welcome to the board, Rykitten. That looks like a healthy and happy Phalaenopsis.
