Larger plant = more chemical reserves = greater likelihood of blooming.

Yes, that was why I stressed it was healthy and not enormous. In fact, I'd say it's average in size. I'm happy to be amazed

Well since last years spike (my care) wasn't much, I didn't cut it off. It started branching heavily when a new spike emerged and I predict upwards of 20 flowers between the two branchers. This is the first one to open today.
