Just a quick question to all your Pro's out there. I decided to repot my Mini-Phal which is very healthy as it had been getting root rot in a few places. So as I was doing this well, a healthy, supple, green root broke off all the way!! It is a very small Mini-Phal with 4-5 good roots.
My Question is: Can I just place that root back where it was although it is not attached to the plant??
Please answer ASAP as I am here waiting a response.
I have no other need for the root so am hoping I can just place it back where it was before it broke off!
No, the root is gone, no reattaching, and nothing can grow from one root as a "cutting". You can dab a bit of cinnamon on the broken root stump and repot the plant. If it still has a few other good roots it should be able to recover if cared for properly
Thank you Louis, I actually had much success repotting it into same pot as it was sufficient for the size. I was very careful and put a little bark in with the existing medium so as to not have it too moist. It had beginning stages of rot root last week, so I was keeping a good eye on it. I guess it is normal when these things happen as it fell off so easily, although did not look damaged but had previously had some black on part of the root. So maybe its a blessing in disguise that it fell off. All other roots are healthy, green and once is even whiteish beige. The other roots look great so I am hoping for the best. I just hope I did not shock my plant as it has 7 beautiful flowers on it and I put it through alot the past week. Now, I will simply let it rest and sit in its usual spot. I will NOT water again until the roots look silvery green as this is what got me into trouble in the 1st place! Thank you Jennifer
