Is my phal orchid rotting?
The orchid crown has turned black and so have the start of some of the roots, the leaves and other roots are okay, I’m just a bit concerned about the health of the crown.

First, welcome.
I don't see any photos of the orchid crown (where the leaves emerge to make a little "pocket" so can't make any judgement. The roots that you show look pretty good, the medium looks old and so repotting might be in order. But without seeing the rest of the plant, not possible to make a diagnosis.

Welcome to the Orchid Board!
What I see looks OK. Phals grown in a higher humidity greenhouse often have some roots shrivel when moved into a lower humidity home. They generally tolerate it if there is still plenty of air at the roots.
You can read about learning to grow Phals here. From the left yellow menu choose Forums then Beginners. Near the top look for sticky thread The Phal abuse stops here.

Hi
Thanks for the reply, glad to hear that the plant is okay, another user said to get some fresh potting medium so will do that.

danni just made quite a good video on this just a few days ago. It addresses a lot of concerns a new grower might have in a straightforward video, if you just want to hear what she has to say about yellowing leaves skip straight to the 6 minute mark but I thought there were some good points she covers and worth a watch.

Lots of green roots. You can repot and give it a fresh start. Maybe that medium is not preforming well and the plant is depending on those aerial roots.

Thanks for all the advice, I will give the video a watch, I’ve ordered some new bark and will repot and hopefully that helps, will it be okay in the same pot or do I need a bigger one?
