Doritis pulcherrima ?
Default Doritis pulcherrima ?

Hello,

A couple of years ago, I purchased what I believed was a doritis cross (pulcherrima '#1' x pulcherrmia '#2') from Carter and Holmes. I have included a picture of the plant. The leaves are thick and stiff and lead me to wonder if this plant has psychopsis in its background. Has anyone seen such leaves in a doritis before?

Thanks,
Steve

Psychopsis cannot interbreed with phalaenopsis, which is what all doritis plants are not considered.

Looks pretty much like pulcherrima to me, although possibly getting too much sunlight.

Thanks Ray. Further online searching shows that doritis pulcherrima leaves come in a range of colors and patterns. My plant gets the same light (70% shade cloth) as my phals who appear to be happy.

You've had it for a few years and it hasn't bloomed for you yet? A picture of the flower would definitely help identify it. The foliage is a lot wider than my pulcherrima.

That is a Phalaenopsis (formerly Doritis) pulcherrima. Any chance it's on the edge of the grouping, and getting morning or evening sun? They tolerate more light than other Phals but don't need it to flower. Or you might not be watering a lot.

If you sleep with air conditioning, place it in your room at night for 3-4 weeks

Here in MI my Doritus pulcherrima are spiking now. Actually started noticing them about two weeks ago. I usually get about 4-5 spikes/pot.
