Default NEED PHAL. REPOTTING INFO

HI I AM A NEWBIE FROM N C I HAVE 2 PHAL. AND AM NEEDING INFO ON REPOTTING THEM ONE IS A LEOPARD PRINCE ABOUT 24 INCHES TALL WITH MULTIPLE FLOWERING STALKS IT IS IN A 4 INCH POT THE SECOND ONE I AM NOT SURE WHAT THE NAME IS, I FOUND IT AT A LOCAL GARDEN CENTER IT APPEARS TO BE A PHAL. BUT WITH SMALLER GOLDEN ORANGE FLOWERS AND A SINGLE STALK ITS ABOUT 18 INCHES TALL AND IS IN A 3 INCH POT BOTH ORCHIDS APPEAR TO BE HEALTHY WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST POTTING MEDIUM TO USE.

Hi April, and welcome. A lot of us use a coarse bark medium, with charcoal, or some other chunky material added, just for extra drainage and air circulation. If you have a Lowe's close by, they carry a phal mix with coarse peat moss that I just tried. Your new ones are probably in sphagnum moss right now, so be careful not to let them stay too wet. As long as they seem healthy, and are in bloom, go easy on the watering, and enjoy them.

Kim

Aboard April great that you have joined the OB neighborhood. So much information awaits.

Kim gave some excellent advice about your potting medium. I would like to add that I repot my orchids in clear plastic pots. Orchid roots love to be nosy and an added plus you can see the health of your rooting system.

I am going to move this thread to Orchid Alliance "Phalaenopsis" and please take a moment to go back to "break the ice" and introduce yourself so many of our members can welcome you.
