Phal Baldan's Kaleidoscope - Orchid Board

Hi all,

I've had this one for 6 years. It's a common cross, but it's the first time that the spike has branched. Three branches!!!

This one stays in bloom for 11 months of the year. The spikes last 6 months, no kidding!! Then about a month later, it's blooms from a new spike. You can see in the pictures the old spike which is still green.

wow brilliant. One can tell it is an older phal, not something one sees very often

It looks exactly like my sogo allen but that stays small and hasn't flowered that much yet.

I have a noid that looks exactly like that. Last year it had three spikes and did bloom most of the year. Maybe I'll steal the name. Lol Beautiful plant.

It's an extremely common hyrbrid I think. I have seen many times over the years in various physical and online shops. Sometimes with the name, other times without.

Years ago, you were walking by a flower shop and saw a phal that reminded you of a special occasion with your wife. I remember you paid a princely sum due to sentimental value. Did that plant thrive and do you have pictures of it?

It may be common, but it's common for a very good reason if all bloom as freely as yours! It certainly is a must have in any Phal collection. I've never had the chance of coming across a named one, though I have seen lots of Noids over the years that look so much like it. I should get one!

It's beautiful! My very first orchid was a NOID that looks exactly like Baldan's Kaleidoscope. Of course, I know a NOID will always be a NOID, but this one came from a florist, not a grocery or hardware or big box store, so I like to think it may very well be that particular hybrid. If not, it's still one of my very favorite Phals.

It took a couple years to settle into a routine, but it's now a very predictable bloomer, and the flowers last up to six months. I've never gotten more than one spike at a time, though, nor branched spikes. Lucky you!

This is that plant. It replaced the original Baldan's Kaleidoscope that I used to propose to my wife. Good memory!!

Yea, this one finishes the blooms in one spike before the next set open. This has been it's best year so far. It literally spent less than 1 month without flowers as the current spike was forming before the older blooms fell. This is also the first time it has produced branching. I hope it keeps improving!
