That spike looks so strange. It reminds me of a plant I saw before (not a phal) where you never cut the spike. It's neat.

i'd say for the second plant, just cut off the spike and work towards new root growth first. more flowers will come later when the plant is healthier. and to the plant it is quite traumatized since u cut off most of the roots except a few which is ok since the rest are soon to be dead. i say air mix, and water appropriately since there are only like 4 roots to wet.

The spike is really strange, It blooms maybe 2 at a time then when those start to shrivel up another opens and it keeps on going. Ok, so I will cut off the spikes and put it in an airy mix so it will grow roots. I chopped off the roots on my other Phal's because they were nasty and they made a huge come-back, growig like crazy.

If it isn't to late, I'd cut the two large spikes and leave the little one. If you have some KLN a good soaking in that before planting would be a big help. Also add 2 drops to gallon of water and use that for a month or so.
I'd also plant in moss, phals really take off in moss when they have had a root trim. You can always move to your favorite mix after it gets some feet under it.

I did it, I cut the large spikes off and left the little one on. I did pot it in sphagnum moss but I don't have any KLN. Thanks everybody for helping me!...oh, I forgot to mention when I took it out of the pot there were some roots that were not attached to the plant but still growing!

Cool! You got the best of both worlds. . .a chance to see the flowers in bloom and help the plant put on new roots!

You really do need to find some KLN. . .Ray, has it.

I am so laughing about your secret project. . .OMG, I love you people.
