i'd say for the second plant, just cut off the spike and work towards new root growth first. more flowers will come later when the plant is healthier. and to the plant it is quite traumatized since u cut off most of the roots except a few which is ok since the rest are soon to be dead. i say air mix, and water appropriately since there are only like 4 roots to wet.
