No Air roots in semi-hydro Female
Default No Air roots in semi-hydro

I have over 15 phals, only 4 still blooming.
All in S/H all but a couple are growing new leaves, roots in clear pots look good, but I have no Air roots.

My circulation, light, humidity, temp, weakly weekly with 20-20-20 is good. They appear very healthy and loving the move to a smaller room.

i think you forgot to ask your question, sir.

my assumption is that you are expecting that there should be air roots? is that the case?

I do not know that all orchids need to air root and, while i think they all might, i know they don't have to. I think of my phals that when happy in their medium don't make a lot of air roots but if they are too wet or stagnant they will pop them right out into the air.

It might be about necessity and it might be other factors too but if they are growing and seem to be thriving i would not be concerned

Thanks for the reply. they seem to be very "happy" I do all S/H because I am allergic to s. moss . Seems to be the easiest for me, and in dry NM seems to work.

I think there are at least two reasons a plant grows aerial roots. One is to expand its water and nutrient gathering abilities, and the other is mechanical stability. If both are satisfied, it'll put its energies into plant growth and blooming, and not more roots.
