Thanks - appreciate your comments!

Very good question. I too have thought about this on occasion. But, when it comes to genetics... lets just say it's above my pay grade, per se (over my head).

If I understand alleles correctly (?): they are variations of the same gene responsible for the form & structure (appearance, shape, size, pattern, color) of an organism? I read an article awhile back about genetically-modified orchids (with a mention of "The Perianth Code"). I *kind of* understood the jest of the article, but it was just too much of an advanced subject for me.

Default Another one

Had some free time today... while doing a bit of plant maintenance, I got lucky and noticed this bud starting to open up. The flower finally opened up tonight. This is a first bloom seedling that I have been growing out for awhile. The plant was acquired from some Taiwan imports a friend got in. Phalaenopsis have never really been my 'cup of tea', but I am really starting to enjoy them (more & more).

That's a nice one! Congratulations on getting your first bloom from the seedling.

Thanks Mountaineer! As a hobbyist, it is very rewarding to see a plant grow and flower (especially when raising a seedling, and being able to observe the growth stages along the way). NoIDs are fun because of the 'unknown', along with seeing the flowers they produce.

Appreciate the compliment DirtyCoconuts! The grow box allows for consistent/stable growing conditions, and provides a 'pleasant bright spot' within the room (I can observe the plants a bit more closely than I normally would).
