On June 21, 1961 the Heart O' Texas Orchid Society was organized.
The purpose of the Heart O' Texas Orchid Society, a non-profit, educational organization, shall be to stimulate an interest in Orchids, relative to their propagation, conservation growth, cultural methods, nomenclature, and their exhibition.
The Heart O' Texas Orchid Society is an active member of the Austin Area Garden Council, The American Orchid Society, SouthWest Regional Orchid Growers Association (SWROGA) and Orchid Digest, with member representatives attending affiliation meetings and events.
In June of 1961, the Heart O' Texas Orchid Society was organized by our charter members: Dr. & Mrs. S.W. Bohls, Mr. & Mrs J.D. Fisk, Mr. & Mrs. R. Brooks Oakley, Mr. Ed Peterson, Mr. Colin Seale, Mr. & Mrs. Harold Schmitt and Mr. & Mrs. W.B. Wardlow. Here we are over 50 years later celebrating orchids and carrying on their original vision for the society. We owe them a depth of gratitude for their contribution of extensive orchid knowledge that they freely shared with all who were interested, allowing us to broaden our reach to new and younger generations of orchid growers. Whether you are 12 or 92, we understand and encourage your love of orchids.
