Day light color question
Default Day light color question

Hello everyone.
I grow my orchids in my room when weather gets colder under two 2 feet day lights. One of them went out recently.

I bought a replacement T5 2 feet 6500K grow light from Home Depot. This new bulb has softer and yellowing color to it.
I'm not sure how this color of light affects orchids. I'm unsure if I should keep it or have it replaced with bright white color bulb. What should I do?

Home Depot listed this as a full spectrum grow light.
Here is the link ViaVolt 24-Watt T5 Blue Linear Fluorescent Light Bulb Replacement for 2 ft. H/O 6500K Full Spectrum Grow Light-VT52B - The Home Depot

In the picture, new light is on the left.

Maybe a mix up with the K...that looks more like a "red", or 4000k/neutral bulb. It won't hurt anything...some people recommend a mix of the blue and red for growth and blooming.

Personally, I prefer all blue and I would return it for a daylight/5000+k bulb.

Wait... is the fixture intended for use with T5s, or standard T8 fluorescent tubes? You cannot put T5s into a standard T8 fixture.

Color temperature in degrees Kelvin (K) is a measurement intended to describe how the light looks to the human eye. Your new tube doesn't look like 6500K. It should be closer to bright white, not yellow, so I wonder whether something is wrong.

If the fixture is truly intended for T5s, maybe the ballast inside is bad.

I think a mistake has been made, the tube is 2700K.

Thank you everyone.
I also think manufacturer sent me wrong bulb. I've returned it and ordered another one. Hopefully it'll be bright white colored light.

The fixture is for T5. I don't think anything is wrong. I don't hear any abnormal noise or pattern of light turning on.

T5 & T8 bulbs won't fit in the same holder. If it fits, you're fine.

Because fluorescent bulbs put out far more blue than red wavelengths, a fluorescentplant light bulb will often have extra yellow and red phosphors.
