Well stated!

There are lots of chemical processes going on, whose rates are affected by light and temperature. Apply those differently than the plant "expects," and the plant will not function optimally.

I was thinking about this a little more... Everything I do to my orchids is an attempt to induce them to flower!

On the other hand, I do nothing to induce them, except giving them the right conditions (or try to) so that they can follow the natural course of things.

There are some orchids that need specific environmental triggers to flower, but in all cases the most important thing you can do to promote flowering is to grow them well.
