As the PAR has nothing to do with the actual spectra of the light and asking for a measurement is meaningless without specifying what light source is measured!

PAR is just a definition on the spectra a particular and "expensive" detector is measuring and not the wavelength composition of the light the detector is measuring

Isn't it possible to measure the PAR output for another light source at a distance from the source with a known Foot candle intensity and compare to the LEDs etc. I was thinking about doing that in my current setup. Any objections to this idea? I am just a layman in terms of lighting, but it seems to me if you are measuring the milimoles of photosynthetically active light that if you measure this value for say a metal halide at 3,500 fc then you can then search for the proper distance from the leds using that value of PAR as a guideline. All you would need is a FC meter, a PAR meter and a reference light.

You can get approx. values to covert fc to PPFD (micro-moles/s/m^2) for several different light type:

Conversion - PPF to Foot-candles

If you have a PAR meter then that is all you need. Get the Li-Cor, it is the only one with a sensitivity cutoff suitable for Deep Red light. You can get one for around $1000.00
