Phal terrarium lighting? Male
Default Phal terrarium lighting?

I had an extra terrarium (12" w x 12" l x 18" h) laying around so I thought I'd make good use of it by mounting a phalaenopsis on a piece of grapewood. I have about 1.5" of dirt substrate on top of some hydroton in the bottom and some sphagnum moss laying around in there to help keep the humidity up. The crown of the orchid is about 9" from the top, the leaves are about 5-6" from the top, and the blooms are about 2-3" from the top. The total height of the orchid is only about 7".

I would like to use a cfl bulb. I have some that are 23 watts, 6500k, and 1450 lumens. Is this enough light? Too much?

You'll probably want to experiment a little with the lamp to plant distance. What reflector do you have?

It's a Zoomed 12" naturalistic terrarium hood. The reflector in it is not polished.
