From what I have read, the LEDs are expensive and make your plants look the wrong colour.

Need to read more... Some are indeed expensive and the wrong color (for viewing - great for growing). There are newer ones that look great (better than most fluorescents) and aren't too expensive. Still more expensive than fluorescent though.

I love, love how LEDs are being used. They are still a little expensive for my budget but in the next two years they will be the new T5s.

I wouldn't get bogged down in the color temperature. Your plants won't care, in my opinion. As long as it is reasonably bright.
