Thanks for explaining that Ray. I thought I was missing something there. Now to replace those 3000k tubes with something that actually promotes plant growth.

Well.... I AM a discount Hydrofarm reseller, so if you look at their catalog or website, I can offer pretty much anything at 10-15% below their suggested retail.

OK. Last post for a few days. Off to SW VA to do some smallmouth fishing.

Please don't forget the color rendition index (CRI). Those differ VASTLY between different bulbs of the same nominal color temperature. The highest values I have found for T5s is CRI of 90 with Giesemann Polychromes (I think those are 6000K). Regular Cool white has about a CRI of 60.

Incandescent bulbs have a CRI of 100.

Same here. I use the daylight bulbs you can find at Home Depot or Lowes, but you've still got to watch for the color temperature as not all are made the same.

I have a curio cabinet turned grow area. I have Phal's, violets, and some hybrid Orchid ( which has gotten moved to the outside room as it's too tall in bloom for the cabinet). I don't even bother with "grow lights" anymore. Just get a soft white florescent bulb and a bright white bulb. Mount them next to each other and you get the whole spectrum...I have had a lot of success with this set up and I use $10 florescent fixture's from Meijer (grocery store in Michigan)..I've had this for two years, as the orchid's flower, I just move the shelf a little farther away.
