Default LEDs vs Greenhouse

A few months ago I promised some video of an 'experiment' I was planning. I put experiment in quotes because it isn't a very well controlled experiment. Best I could do on short notice. If this works, the first video is the setup of the experiment, the second the 'results'. They are kind of long, and might even be a bit boring, I've never made a video before...

Experiment: One tray of plants placed in greenhouse, one in basement under a 45W LED system (Sunshine Systems). Plants were as identical as I could make them. Watch the videos for more info.

Results: Given the fact that temperature was uncontrolled and that it was only two months... I'd say the LEDs did a decent job. Masdevallias grew much better (might want to fast forward to around 11 minutes), and a little dendrobium hybrid did pretty well. I've visited each and every darn plant in the followup video, yes it does get a little long.

LEDs vs Greenhouse Male
Default

There is a guy I recently met in the Bucks County OS that went to LED panels for his masdies, and he says they absolutely thrive.

Great videos! and not boring at all (at least to me). I thought your experiment was very well done. You showed a general comparison between LEDs and greenhouse conditions - and you were careful to explain any weird results. I don't think anyone would argue with your conclusions. Good job, and thank you!

I can't wait to see the next installment: LEDs vs flourescents

Might be a few months before I can set that one up. Despite my best intentions, I still haven't managed to move the greenhouse to the new house...
