Ray, when I was growing my plants under T5s using only 6500°K (6 tubes of 54W = 120 cm) they did indeed very good and bloomed regularly. Yes, 6 x 54W is a lot of light and for some plants I had to put some shading material as it was just too much... However, after doing some readings about the light spektrum of those lamps and the light spektrum needed for photosynthesis, and following some recommendations given for under light growing in a german forum, I decided to change 2 lamps for 3000°K. This not only gave a more balanced light to my eyes, but I could also detect an improvement in plants growth and blooming withing few weeks...
By the way, the reason of using 6 tubes is that I had lamps for aquaristic (especially for salt water aquaristic) which had 6 tubes and only work if you use all 6 tubes... I think I could have done very well too with less tubes..
