Also I read that Flourescent doesnt have the "penetration" that HID and MH have. ??? hmmm
the high intensity discharge bulbs like mh and hps do penetrate more for sure but you also get to deal with the glare if your in the same room.

I love them to grow under but not in rooms used by people

yes sir!! i was talking to the studio guy around here and he had some 850 T5s he gave me

he tells he likes the flourescents bec they arent so damn hot he says you need more of them but they are more friendly. apples and carrots but the point is made.
lights with 830's in them at 3000k

I put them in and an 850 is pretty blinding. In fact the light up against the window you cant tell the light from the Real Sun coming thru the frosted glass.
850's at 5000k

865 philips are going to be interesting when I get a few of them to test also.

MH and HID and all the others are way out of line in living/growing area indeed.

I did some digging after reading this, and added this to my "free info" collection: Light Sources & Color Temperature

Thank you ray it was really helpful. But now I have to ask you when a light source as etc Florusent is write as 24w how far from the lamp it was measured. Also for phalaenopsis and oncidiums I know O need medium light which is 1500 foot candle. But in my country we works with watt and mostly lumens. People looks on me like I am an alien when I say foot camdle . Can you please help me with that I make a lot of DIY stuff. And I know how I will build it. But I just can't grasp the right lights without knowing what strength. I grasp the fact off the square distance reduces light. Thank you Ray!

Look at my measurements of a 24W Hydrofarm lamp in this article, as it may be a help.

Watts are watts.

A lumen is a measure of light intensity.

A T5HO lamps puts out about 90 lumens per watt.

A footcandle is one lumen per square foot.

One lux is a lumen per square meter.
