Small tabletop setup, advice?
Hi! Can you help with advice on simplest tabletop setup?
My environment is not orchid-friendly, I gave away most of them, but still some left, and I would like to resurrect those that are left.
Limitations: tiny space, no place for shelves, and expenses should be minimal.
I think that ideas about this setup will be useful not only for me but for other forum readers as well.
I moved my remaining six orchids (cattleays, cymbidium, oncidiums, mtssa) from the narrow windowsill (S window), it's too cold or burning hot there in the winter, depending on sun position in given hour. Now they are in 1.5 ft (40 cm) from window pane, in old 10 gal aquarium on the table, under supplemental desktop lamp with CFL. Orchids are in SH, bottom of fish tank is covered by thin layer of water to increase humidity.
When table is needed for a work, this setup will be moved to any other place, then returned back.
Drawbacks:
Small tank is a little bit too small and low for my orchids for efficiently increasing moisture. If I build small enclosure from CPVC pipes, transparent plastic film and shallow storage container, it will be flimsy for a moving aside (assuming that CPVC construction in free standing inside humidity tray). Also, I guess, it should be open at the top, so the light from desktop lamps will reach inside without losses.
Is there anything else that I missed? For a small, easy, cheap basic setup?
