I have to say that my plants don't get any day light at all, not the plants in the enclosure. The back wall of the enclosure is faced towards the window. When I measure with a light meter during day light hours I measure less than 100 lux. ;-) which is zero to me.
They thrive under these lights...

Vivaria.nl is the shop I ordered mine from. The seller is very friendly and can give you good advise. Also, I had problems with one balast and he made no problems of sending me a replacement. He ships frome France but the owner is Dutch.

BTW if you intall reflectors the total lenght is 45 cm for 36 Watt.

I would say go for PL or T5. T5 puts out a lot more light than T8. If you use the search button you'll find a lot of posts about this subject. Have you seen them?

What kind of plants do you want to grow under the lights?
