Lights at night? Male
Default Lights at night?

I have just signed up for Real Time Pricing for my electric meter and want to know if anyone has run their light setup through the night instead of the daytime. On this program, my electric rate will change every hour based on the wholesale electric cost to the utility. Since power costs less at night, I hope to save some money. My thought was to turn the lights on at about 6PM and off at say 6AM. Since the plants are in the basement, they will have low light/darkness during the day. Has anybody tried this?

John

A grower in my orchid society has been doing this for years, and she has no problem at all!

As long as you can give them darkness during the day, it should be no problem at all! A seeds company where I worked would also do this for the plants they kept in the growing chambers to save money.

There is a Cdn vendor that actually does this as well. They run half of thier grow space lights during the day and then they run the other half at night. The two areas are seperate of course and they prodce some really beautiful plants!
