And for the marine acrylic tank you have the water pressure contradicting the warping! The side of the tank will warp inwards, wet side expands and the water pressure will push the other direction. The thick material will also help against warping as you wrote.
Yes, low iron glass such as Diamant and Starphire (there are other brands) are normally up to double the price of normal glass. The thickness of the glass makes a big difference to price too. Still, I think it is worth it for the clarity this glass gives.
