So it's nearly 2022 and it seems there have been more advances, I actually found a really affordable good quality light on Amazon.

I am amazed I actually managed to find a light that is half the price of this one and seems identical but if you look at the fine print you will notice the heatsink is half the thickness and the led's are glue covered wich reduces their output also the reviews says it had a tendency to break so avoid the cheap rubbish...

this one fingers crossed is not. It just arrived today and is built really well. Also has a 3 years warranty. For the price (less than a dollar a watt) I think this is one of the best grow lights out there.

It will illumate a 4 square meter area ( well maybe not that much but it is bright)

ps for anyone in the uk it is called a vannect grow light but I have to admit I managed to take advantage of a special promtion that knocked £40 off the price, otherwise I probably would not have bought it so readily but it seems worth the price.

The link to Amazon brings up a lamp that they say is good for less than 1 square meter of effective growing area.

ok so use it for a square meter but I am pretty sure you'd fry orchids in that square meter.

So that might be the disadvantage. You have to hang it high. But the intensity can be adjusted so it can be used for a square meter no problem.

Personally I am still debating having 6x arcadia jugleDawn bars is not better than one of these units but price wise there is a big difference. 6 Jungle bars use 120 watts, this uses the same as 6 jungle bars in one tiny footprint.

I think I still have sun spots looking directly at the lights which is why they give you free sunglasses.

I just thought someone might be interested. This is a $500 light being sold for $70

But it is so bright it probably is only for someone who needs to illuminate a basement or big area.

Edit: Just as another Ps: I have been using the same light clawhammer uses for some of his shelves in his basement. A bozily 60 watt warm white low powered led board
I placed the new light next to it, turned it on, it was so bright I couldn't even tell the old light was on anymore.

just another chinese LED clone in the 100 ish watt range. nothing special and certainly not equivalent to a $500 dollar light. you can all but guarantee that the specs are overstated but I'm sure the board will grow orchids just fine.
