My Basement Greenhouse
Default My Basement Greenhouse

Hello fellow orchid lovers! In the past 4 months I moved my indoor greenhouse from an upstairs bedroom to my basement. The improvements I have made allow me to get my daily chores / watering done in 30 minutes vs 2 hours.

Being covid-times, barely anyone has seen it! Even the when I show it to a friend or a date, no one gets it quite like you guys will

I have 327 plants under 26 x 65w led grow panels and 1 x 200w fixture in the center. The room high low temp is 86/66f in summer and 82/62f in winter.

I plumbed in drainage from the racks, biggest time saver (30 min daily)

I made a 50 gal humidifier, saves 10 mins daily. 3 fans ensuring lots of air movement. Keeps the room at 80% and only have to refill once a month.

Injecting a concentrated fert solution into the hose water, no more mixing, saves 10 minutes

I use an inline fan to pull cold air into the room from the outside for cooling. I use the duct for an a/c unit during the summer

Thanks! I love growing indoors and continuously trying to improve the control of the variables that allow the plants to thrive

It also helps keep me sane during our long dark rainy winters as well as covid lockdowns

I think this qualifies as 'killing it'.

That day/night temperature range + humidity and air movement is just perfect!

Where is this cold and dark rainy place are you located?

Very well designed and executed, love the draining shelves idea. Would love to do something like this in my tent but...not today, lol

Thank you! I'm in Portland Oregon. I get about the same amount of sun through the walls of my basement than I do through my windows for the next 6 months

Much appreciated Leafmite!

I do have 4 masdevallia tucked in my mounted orchid area that are not too appreciative of the temps but besides that the plants have been paying me back for my efforts
