That's unreal. This level of dedication and planning I can't imagine the time (and $) you spent tweaking everything. It's inspiring to see how passionate you must be!

Respect Clawhammer. I can recognise a few things I have too but yes the untrained eye would not be able to see instantly how much time and effort has been spent building all the drainage and the lights, jesus, I have a few lights by now, some same as you but I counted at least 11 x 60 watt lights and I can see there are more than that

My orchids are spread all around the house, you'd be surprised how many I've been able to house all over the place without it looking like they've taken up too much space. Lets just say I have a few more orchids, I am still experimenting how much indoor lighting I need if I don't use a window as I need more space again.. A window does save quite a bit on lighting I think.

Can I ask is that an Angraecum Leonis on the nutrient injector picture? It is huge, very impressive if that is a leonis.

Reference to the basement scene in "Tremors"? With how 2020 is going so far I wouldn't be surprised if thats how it ends lol

Thanks for the kind words! Definitely a labor of love. I had to move across town last year and moving the orchid greenhouse almost killed me.

Unfortunately here in Portland the sun goes on vacation from November thru April and my windows are inadequate for even the lowliest of houseplants.

Yes, that is my Leonis... One of my favorite looking plants. Currently with 3 spikes a one flower. Great night fragrance

Bravo! Tremendously well-planned build and execution!

I moved mine from basement to an upstairs sun porch this year. Other than that, fairly similar setup plumbing, watering, humidifying-wise. I do already miss the easier heat control from the basement, but I think the payback of not moving everything outside in summer will make up for it. That's my theory anyway.

so, i apologize in advance as i am not cultured in the ways of all people and their geographic regions, please tell me to sod off if this is inappropriate.

what does this cost to run? or what is the kW draw?

i never really thought about what it would take to make a magical light cave like this but seeing it and looking at 26 panels is awe inspiring and i was kindo curious.

not to be rude or nosey( treading ever so lightly )

Thanks for asking this question I have never calculated it before. Half of my brain is curious, the other half didn't want to know.

Calculation:
Cost of a kw/hr = $.04426
Watts = (26 * 65) + 200 = 1890 watts
1890 watts per hour = 1.89 kw/hr
12 hours a day x 1.89 kw/hr = 22.68 Kw/hr per day
22.68 x $.04426 = $1.0038 per day

Totally worth it. All thanks and praise to the LED gods.

Giant sandworms were conceived by Frank Herbert in the novel Dune.
