50 Gallon Humidifier
Default 50 Gallon Humidifier

I stole this brilliant idea from WaterWitchin, such a good idea I thought it deserved its own thread.

Previous to this I had to refill two humidifiers daily. Estimating once a month now. I will rest easier when travelling not having to rely on anyone to refill the humidifier.

This is just a 50 gal tote filled with water with a few holes cut in the lid and a pond fogger on a float.

I really like the Inkbird humidity controller. The probe seems substantial, more sensitive, and the humidity adjusts in real time.

I have a usb fan that comes on with the pond fogger when triggered by the Inkbird which blows the fog out of the other two holes.

Excellent!

Before I invested in a Jay-bird Hydrofogger for the greenhouse, I made a 5-gallon bucket humidifier with LECA, a submersible pump, float valve and squirrel-cage blower. No drawing, so “picture this in your mind”:
  • Float valve positioned about 1/3 up from the bottom.
  • Plastic grid on legs above the water level, with fine hardware cloth cover.
  • 3” PVC pipe sat in middle of grid, extending above the bucket.
  • Filled the space around the pipe with LECA.
  • Pump sprayed water onto top of LECA via a ring of perforated tubing. Water trickled down through it, returning to the reservoir.
  • Plastic bucket lid had a large hole for the PVC pipe, and a series of 1” holes above. The surrounding LECA.
  • Blower inlet was connected to the PVC pipe.
The pump kept the LECA wet, and the blower sucked air down through it then up through the pipe, where the moistened air was discharged into the room.

Wow, ya'll are high tech. I just plop my misters into the top of a cheap 50 gallon tote without a top on it and let 'er rip. The fan in the room keeps everything stirring around. Nice bells and whistles. Boys and their toys.
