I have a 65 watt array and I hang it about 18" above cattleyas, probably could go up higher for lower light plants and seedlings. I'm getting another for growing up vegetable seedlings:

The price isn稚 bad on that unit! Their larger ones can get spendy but so can everything. Do your cats flower und the 65? Do you think it would work for vandals? Lastly, as far as the COBs go, do you think canting them towards the ten walls would suffice to diffuse the light? I値l prolly play around with them for a bit before picking up a board.

yes they flower well in an area of about 2 feet by 1 feet at 18" away. I have lower light plants on the edges. I wouldn't bother pointing your cobs away from your plants the way you use your cob to light your plants is just fine. I run them 14 hours in the summer and 12 in the winter.

What/where are the directions for building them? Do you need to be an electrician or have an EE degree?

No, but it helps if you're crafty and like building things. If you search "DIY COB Grow Ligths" on the web, you should find a fair amount of info. You can also purchase kits. That said, the light thefish1337 linked to above looks both promising and affordable...he's blooming cats under them so that says a lot. If you're looking for a project and like to tinker, the COBs are definitely fun to build.

How痴 the placement of this Coryanthes macrantha seem in relation to the COBs? From what I gather these prefer a shadier placement. Thoughts?

After some thought I moved it. Lighting was pretty low at the previous spot. We値l see how it does off to the side.
